This blue carp-shaped container, adorned with gold decoration, features a design rich in symbolism and elegance. In Japanese culture, the carp, or koi fish, is considered a symbol of good fortune and resilience. Every year on May 5, during Tango-no-Sekku, a tradition honoring childrenâs growth, colorful koinobori (carp streamers) are flown outdoors, appearing to swim in the windâa beloved sight in Japan.
Originally made as a small container to hold incense, it was mainly used in tea rooms for scenting and welcoming guests. The shape is unique and three-dimensional, and the traditional Japanese design of seigaiha "wave" patterns is stylishly depicted on it.
With its exquisite design, this small box can be used in many other ways. It can be displayed as an interior decoration, or used to hold accessories or small snacks. You may display it on celadon plates and lacquered stands.
